Biography
Coco Chanel was born in Saumur 1883 and grew up in a relatively poor home with four siblings. The name “Coco” was originally an artist name created during a period when she planned to become a cabaret singer. As a designer Coco Chanel was before her time, in her view that fashion should be elegant and still comfortable for women. During the Second World War she closed all her shops and left the country to live in the US and Schweiz for 15 years. Her come back came in 1950, at the age of 71. The collection that was called a failure in British press, and a success among the American media houses that like the comfortable Chanel dress style. Her motto was to design clean cut clothing for the independent women in timeless style.
